  • 8 biscuits store-bought or homemade buttermilk, flaky texture
  • 6 large eggs room temperature for easier whisking
  • 2.3 oz peppered gravy mix makes 2 cups, or substitute with homemade white pepper gravy
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage mild, or use spicy/maple flavored if preferred
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or any preferred melting cheese
  • ½ cup milk any fat content, whole recommended
  • Salt and black pepper to taste, freshly ground preferred

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until fully browned, then drain excess fat.
  3. Cut each biscuit into four pieces and layer them evenly in the prepared pan.
  4. Spread the cooked sausage over the biscuit pieces.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese across the top of the sausage layer.
  6. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the cheese and sausage.
  7. Prepare the gravy according to package directions (or homemade) and pour it evenly over the casserole.
  8. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and biscuits are cooked through.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
