Ingredients

  • cup honey Provides sweetness and sticky texture
  • ¼ cup tamari soy sauce or coconut aminos for soy-free (Adds depth and saltiness)
  • 4 garlic cloves minced (Adds aromatic, savory flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger Adds zest and warmth
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Provides a hint of heat
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For cooking shrimp
  • 1 pound raw shrimp peeled and deveined (Shrimp should be ready to cook)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro or parsley For garnish and fresh flavor
  • 1 green onion thinly sliced (For garnish and added freshness)

Equipment

  • 1 Small bowl For mixing the sauce ingredients together
  • 1 Pan A large skillet or frying pan works best for cooking the shrimp evenly
  • 1 Knife and cutting board For mincing garlic, grating ginger, and slicing green onions

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine the honey, tamari soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Place the shrimp in a separate bowl and pour about ⅓ of the sauce over them. Toss to coat and let them marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated shrimp (discarding any leftover marinade) and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until pink and just cooked through.
  4. Pour the remaining sauce into the pan with the shrimp and bring it to a simmer, stirring occasionally for about one minute.
  5. Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped cilantro or parsley. Top with sliced green onions before serving.
