Ingredients

  • For the sauce
  • 8 tablespoons dark soy sauce or low-sodium soy sauce for less salt
  • 5 tablespoons hoisin sauce for rich, sweet umami flavor
  • ½ cup 120ml beef broth (made from one bouillon cube, or use stock)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil to add nutty aroma
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar lightly packed for sweetness
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes adjust for desired heat
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch to thicken sauce slightly
  • For the noodles
  • 9 oz 250g linguini (or substitute with ramen, udon, or zucchini noodles for low-carb)
  • Salt to taste for pasta water
  • For the beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or neutral cooking oil
  • 1 lb 450g ground beef (90% lean for crumbly texture, can use turkey or chicken)
  • 4 teaspoons minced garlic fresh or paste for quick prep
  • 3 teaspoons minced ginger fresh or paste
  • 4 green onions chopped (spring onions optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish to finish dish

Equipment

  • 1 medium bowl for mixing the sauce
  • 1 Large pot for cooking pasta, medium size works too
  • 1 large frying pan or skillet for stir-frying beef and tossing noodles
  • 1 Colander for draining the pasta
  • 1 Whisk to combine the sauce ingredients smoothly
  • 2 tongs or two forks for tossing pasta with sauce and beef

Method

  1. Whisk together all sauce ingredients in a medium bowl until smooth.
  2. Cook linguini in well-salted water according to package directions, keeping it slightly firm to the bite. Drain in a colander.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook 5–7 minutes, breaking apart, until evenly browned.
  4. Stir in garlic and ginger, cooking 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour sauce over the beef, stirring to coat thoroughly.
  6. Simmer 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly, enough to cling to pasta.
  7. Add chopped green onions, stirring through for 1 minute.
  8. Toss in cooked pasta, combining thoroughly with the beef and sauce using tongs or forks.
  9. Garnish with extra green onions, sesame seeds, and optional red chili flakes for extra heat.
